ANNAPOLIS, MD -- The Delaware men's tennis team lost its second consecutive match on Wednesday afternoon, falling to 1-2 on the year with a 7-0 defeat at Navy in which the Blue Hens only won a total of one set.
Senior Jonathan Schwartz fought hard in his sixth-singles match against Navy's Owen Bullard, but came up just short in the third-set tiebreaker and fell 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-2). Schwartz's valiant effort was the Hens' only highlight of the day, as UD dropped its other eight matches in straight sets.
Sophomore Austin Longacre dropped a 6-0, 6-3 verdict to Navy's Nate Helms at first singles, while junior No. 2 Nolan Greenberg fell to Johnny Waters, 6-1, 6-1. Midshipman Jason Hill had little trouble with UD sophomore Sam Barrer in their third singles match-up, as he eased to a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Freshman Chris Hincker battled for a set with Navy's Ramsey Lemaich, but ultimately fell by a 7-5, 6-2 tally. Sophomore Camilo Perez followed suit at fifth singles, where he suffered a 6-1, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Alex James.
Navy, which topped UD 4-1 in last year's George Mason Tournament, handily won all three doubles matches to complete the sweep.
The Hens head back to the court on Saturday, when they square off with Maryland at noon.
