NORFOLK, Va. -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams each had a singles player and doubles team awarded Thursday with a spot on the All-Colonial Athletic Association teams. Juniors Austin Longacre (top right) and Elena Berry (bottom right) earned second and third team singles, respectively, and the doubles teams Longacre and senior Nolan Greenberg and Berry and freshman Jo Jo Gruber earned third team doubles.
Longacre, who set the school record in 2007-08 for singles wins in a season with 22, is 20-4 in 2008-09. His 52 career wins are five short of a three-way tie for first on the school’s all-time career wins list. The Landenberg, Pa. native also won the school its first ever individual match against the University of Maryland this season back on Mar. 7.
He also impressed at No. 1 doubles along with his partner Greenberg. This dynamic duo went 11-5 for the year at the first doubles flight. They helped the Blue Hens earn the doubles point in six of nine matches this Spring.
Greenberg (Glendale, Wis.) became the school’s all-time leader in career individual doubles wins this past Fall when he earned his 46th win. In the Spring, he eclipsed Jeff Olmstead’s mark of 45 which stood for 34 years, and now holds a career record of 51-37.
Berry posted a very impressive 21-6 record at No. 1 singles this season. She is 51-20 for her career, which is tied for 11th on the school’s career singles wins list.
Berry and Gruber posted a record of 20-6 at No. 1 doubles this season. They helped Delaware earn the doubles point in all but two matches this season as the Blue Hens posed a 12-2 record this season that included eight shutouts.
