Delaware Men's Tennis Team Captures ECAC Open Title

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The University of Delaware men’s tennis team captured the 2008 ECAC Men’s Open Tennis Championship Title at Trinity College on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Hens won all five matches on Sunday, with three of them coming in back draw games, and finished the two-day tournament with a total of 15.5 points.

This is the second straight year Delaware has won this open, as last year they tied for the title with Fairfield.

Freshman Andre Vorobyov and senior Nolan Greenberg (at right) won the main draw of Flight B and Flight C, respectively. Both started their matches down a set and came back to win.

Junior Austin Longacre won the back draw game in Flight A; Chris Hincker won the back draw game in Flight D, and Sam Barrer and Courtney Scott won the doubles back draw game to slip past Fairfield (14.5) and Trinity (14) in the team standings.

Flight C: Championship Game: Nolan Greenberg (UD) def. Nick White (Trinity) 3-6, 6-0, 7-5.
Flight D: Back Draw Game: Chris Hincker (UD) def. Dimitri Athans (NJIT) 6-1, 6-0.
