WILMINGTON, N.C. - Freshman Andre Vorobyov (at right) came back to beat James Madison’s Mike Smith 3-6, 7-6 (7-2) 6-3 at No. 2 singles to clinch a 4-3 victory for the University of Delaware men’s tennis team on Saturday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association Round Robin action at UNCW Tennis Complex. This marked the first time Delaware has ever beaten the Dukes in seven all-time meetings.

With the win, the Blue Hens improved to 9-3 for the year and 2-1 in the CAA. The Dukes, who had won their last two and four of their last five, fell to 6-12 for the year and 1-4 in the CAA.

Delaware’s No. 2 tandem of sophomore Chris Hincker and freshman Courtney Scott defeated Tommi Nissinen and Ville Maaranen, 8-6, but JMU won the doubles point by winning at No. 1 and 3 doubles.

In singles action, Delaware won four of the six singles matches to claim the victory.

Junior Austin Longacre defeated Jared Robinson 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Longacre, who set the school record in 2007-08 for singles wins in a season with 22, is now 19-4 in 2008-09. His 51 career wins move him into a three-way tie for third place on the career singles wins list, and just six away from a three-way tie for first.

Vorobyov’s win, which was the deciding match, was his 12th win of the season. His record now stands at 12-9.

UD dropped the No. 3 and 4 singles matches, but Scott and sophomore Nick Piacente, the reining CAA singles player of the week, won their matches at No. 5 and 6, respectively.
