RICHMOND, Va. - Junior No. 1 singles player for the University of Delaware Men’s Tennis team Austin Longacre (at right) and UNC Wilmington’s Michael Pereira shared Colonial Athletic Association men’s tennis player of the week accolades for the week ending March 8.
Longacre became the first Delaware player to ever win a match against the University of Maryland, defeating the Terps’ David Kwon 7-5, 4-6, 13-11 in a tough battle at No. 1 singles. The next day he went on to beat Navy’s Marcus Rebersak 6-1, 6-2.
A native of Landenberg, Pa., Longacre set the school record in 2007-08 for singles wins in a season with 22. He is currently 13-4 in 2008-09, and his 45 career wins are tied for 11th place on the career singles wins list.
Delaware is 2-2 in the Spring season and 4-2 in 2008-09. The Blue Hens just recently defeated Georgetown on the road, 5-2 this past Wed., and they will visit Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) on Sat., Mar. 21 at 12 p.m.
