EMMITSBURG, Md. - The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams both blanked Mount St. Mary’s 7-0 on Sat. afternoon at the MSM Tennis Courts. The men improve to 3-2 in the Spring season and 5-2 for the 2008-09 season,and the women stay unbeaten for the season at 5-0 (3-0 in the Spring).

Delaware swept the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The Blue Hen's No. 1 tandem of Austin Longacre and Nolan Greenberg defeated Andrew Marinucci and Patrick Plastow, 8-4. Courtney Scott and Chris Hincker earned an 8-3 win over the Mount's Favio Osorio and Thad Mostowtt at No. 2 doubles and Delaware's No. 3 pair of Andre Vorobyov and Camilo Perez swept Sam Walton and Jastin Mostowtt, 8-0.

In singles action, Longacre defeated Osorio 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Longacre, who set the school record in 2007-08 for singles wins in a season with 22, is now 14-4 in 2008-09. His 46 career wins move him into sole possession of 11th place on the career singles wins list.

Blue Hen freshman Andre Vorobyov got back on track at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Marinucci at No. 2 singles.

Chris Hincker defeated the Mount’s Patrick Plastow easily by a score of 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, but junior Sam Barrer would again have to battle for a win at No. 4 singles against Thad Mostowtt. Barrer prevailed 6-4, 1-6, 13-11.

The men improve to 7-1 all-time against Mount St. Mary’s in a series that dates back to the 1991-92 season.

The women’s tennis team won all six singles matches and all three doubles matches. Junior Elena Berry started things off by earning a tough 7-5, 5-7, 10-4 win at No. 1 singles over Emily Bolchoz. Berry improved to 14-3 for the season.

Sophomore Megan Doran stayed perfect in No. 2 singles play, beating Chelsea Johnson in a hard-fought match, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-4. She is now 10-0 for the season at No. 2 singles and 12-3 overall.

At No. 3 singles, the sophomore from Canada Ivana Petrich also improved to 10-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Kaitlin Hallahan. Petrich is 15-2 for the season and 35-5 for her career.

After a tough loss at Georgetown, freshman Jo Jo Gruber (bottom right) bounced back for a big 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 win over Mount’s Emma Haley at No. 4 singles.

Senior Amanda Campbell (13-3) and freshman Samantha Carnall (9-6) won the last two singles matches for UD at No. 5 and No. 6 to close out singles play. They both improved to 5-0 in their respective singles rankings for the season.Campbell now has 55 singles wins in her career, which ranks tied for eighth place on the school’s all-time list.

All three Blue Hen pairs won to earn Delaware the point for doubles competition to close out the match. Campbell moved within three individual doubles wins of tying current Assistant Tennis Coach Susan Pollack for the most career wins in UD history.
