NORFOLK, Va. -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams completed the second of three days of competition in the Sergio Tacchini Collegiate Invitational Tournament at Old Dominion on Saturday.

The second day of the tournament consisted of all singles matches. Both teams had three players advance to the semi-finals.

Chris Hincker, Camilo Perez (at right) and Nick Piacente all advanced to the semifinals for the men. Elena Berry, Jo Jo Gruber and Ivana Petrich advanced to the semi-finals for the women.

Hincker, in C-1 Singles play, defeated Greg Machado of Liberty 6-2,6-1 and then George Washington’s Andy Erickson 7-6, 7-5, 6-3. In D-2 Singles play, Perez received a bye in the first round and then defeated Loyola’s Chet Milot 6-1, 6-3.

Piacente also got a first round bye and went on to defeat Brett Tobin of Villanova 7-6, 9-7, 6-2.

In women’s action, Berry advanced to the A-1 semifinals by beating Drexel’s Zineb Hilali 6-1, 7-5 and Old Dominion’s Nadine Fahoum 6-1, 6-0.

Gruber also advanced to the semifinals of B-1 by beating Howard’s Alyssa Works 6-2, 6-3 and Allison Solberg of Villanova 6-4, 6-3.

Petrich defeated Sarah Dieffenbach (George Mason) 6-0, 6-0 and Kelly Maxwell (JMU) 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the B-3 Singles semifinal.
