FAIRFAX, Va. -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis each got their Colonial Athletic Association seasons off to a successful start Saturday afternoon as both Blue Hen teams swept host George Mason.

Delaware captured 17 of the 18 matches on the day as the Blue Hen men downed George Mason 7-0 while the UD women posted a 6-1 victory over the Patriots.

The Blue Hen men won their second straight match and improved to 4-4 while the Delaware women won their second straight to improve to 6-1. The George Mason men fell to 5-8 with the Patriot women had a three-match win streak snapped and fell to 12-5.

The Delaware women have now defeated George Mason 13 straight time since 1992 while the UD men have bested the Patriots 12 straight times.

The Delaware men won all six of the singles matches in straight sets with Austin Longacre winning at No. 1, Gokay Celic at No. 2, Courtney Scott at No. 3, Chris Hincker at No. 4, Andrew Vorobyov at No. 5, and Sam Barrer (at right) at No. 6.

Longacre and Celic combined to win at No. 1 doubles, Scott and Hincker were winners at No. 2, and Barrer and Vorobyov were victorious at the No. 3 spots. Hincker improved to 12-3 on the season in singles and won his 50th career singles match.

The women’s match was tighter with four of the singles matches extending to three sets. Megan Doran won at No. 1 for Delaware while Elena Berry won at No. 2, Montse Ripoll won at No. 3, Amanda Halstrom was a winner at No. 5, and Kristen Mueller posted a straight set win at No. 6.

Delaware swept the three doubles matches behind Doran and Berry at No. 1, Doran and Ripoll at No. 2, and Halstrom and Mueller at No. 3.
