COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Delaware men’s tennis squad dropped a 7-0 decision to host University of Maryland Wednesday afternoon as the host Terrapins captured all six singles matches and swept the doubles competition.

Delaware (2-4), which dropped its third straight match, managed to send one of the singles matches to a tie-breaker and one of the doubles competitions to a tie-breaker but could not pull out a victory as Maryland improved to 13-2 on the season.

The Blue Hens will continue a busy week of action with matches at UMBC on Friday and at home against Mt. St. Mary’s on Saturday. Both matches will include the UD men’s and women’s teams.

Delaware’s best performance in singles Wednesday came at the No. 3 spot where the Hens’ Courtney Scott (at right) battled Sergio Wyss before falling 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). In doubles, Delaware’s duo of Austin Longacre and Gokay Celik fell to Jessie Kiuru and Tommy Laine by a score of 9-8 (9-7).

In other singles action, Delaware’s Longacre fell to Kiuru 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, Celik fell to Laine 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2, Chris Hincker dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to John Collins, Andre Vorobyov fell to Mathias Sarrazin 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot, and Sam Barrer was defeated by Ian Mansfield at the No. 6 spot by a score of 6-3, 6-4.

In the other two doubles matches, the Blue Hens No. 2 team of Scott and Hincker fell to Collins and Sarrazin 8-3 and at No. 3, the Hen’s combination of Vorobyov and Barrer dropped an 8-4 verdict to Wyss and Mansfield.
