Hofstra Downs Delaware 4-2 in Men's Tennis

 

ELKTON, MD -- Hofstra University defeated the University of Delaware 4-2 in an America East men's tennis match Friday at the Elkton Indoor Tennis Complex.

The Blue Hens lost their fourth straight match to fall to 9-8 (3-2 America East) on the season. The match was moved from the Carpenter Sports Building Courts to the indoor complex due to the rain. No doubles competitions were held.

Delaware picked up two victories at singles as Ira Bernstein defeated Hofstra's Alexsey Nenashev 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot and the Blue Hens' Chris Johnson defeated Hofstra's Dmitri Rozanovsky 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot. Delaware's No. 4 player Sean Kelly was tied with Hofstra's Duane Williams at the No. 3 spot but withdrew with an injury before the final set.

Bernstein (Concord HS/Wilmington, DE), a senior, improved his team leading record to 11-7 on the season and upped his career total to 47-18 at singles, one win shy of fifth place on the all-time Delaware wins list.

Delaware will take on America East foe Drexel Saturday in Philadelphia.
