Hofstra Downs UD 5-2 in America East Tennis Semfinals;

Bernstein Earns All-America East Honors

BURLINGTON, VT -- The University of Delaware men's tennis squad had its hopes for a first ever NCAA Tournament bid ended Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 loss to top seed Hofstra in the America East semifinals at the University of Vermont.

Hofstra, which defeated the Blue Hens 4-2 back on April 16, won the doubles point and took four of the six singles matches to post the victory and move on to Sunday's finals at 12 noon. The champion will earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

For Delaware (12-10), Clinton Cole and Sean Kelly each enjoyed good days for the Hens. Both posted singles victories, Cole at No. 4 singles and Kelly at No. 6 singles, then teamed for an 8-3 victory at the No. 3 doubles spot.

University of Delaware senior Ira Bernstein lost 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot, snapping a five-match streak and falling to 15-8 on the season.

For his play during the tournament, Bernstein was the lone Blue Hen player named to the All-America East team.
