TOWSON EDGE DELAWARE IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

TOWSON, MD - Matt Fish downed Clinton Cole 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 at No. 5 singles to lead Towson University to a 4-3 America East men’s tennis victory over the University of Delaware Monday afternoon.

The Blue Hens had a two-match win streak snapped to close out the regular season with an 11-9, 4-2 America East record. Delaware will compete at the America East Tournament this weekend, April 30-May2, at the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT. The champion will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Towson is the defending champion while the Blue Hens last won in 1997.

The two teams split the six singles matches as Delaware’s Ira Bernstein won at No. 1, Chris Johnson won at No. 3, and Jordan Reese won at No. 6. Towson won the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. The Hens lone doubles win was an 8-4 victory by Bernstein and Reese at the No. 1 spot.

Bernstein, a senior, improved his team-leading singles record to 14-7 and improved to 50-18 for his career, becoming just the fifth player in Delaware history to record 50 victories. He also picked up his 41st career doubles victory to move into second on the all-time UD list. Reese improved to 8-4 with his singles victory.
