Delaware Downs Vermont 5-2 in Men's Tennis

 

NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men's tennis team cruised to its second straight victory with a 5-2 America East victory over Vermont Saturday at the Delaware Field House Courts.

The Hens, coming off a 7-0 victory over West Chester Thursday, swept the three doubles matches and won at the first three singles slots to improve to 7-3, 2-1 America East on the season.

In singles, Delaware's Ira Bernstein improved to 7-4 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Josh Hanna at No. 1, Michael Murray defeated Ryan Barba6-4, 7-5 at No. 2, and Jordan Biel downed Chris Wilson 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. Also picking up a singles wins for the Hens was Sean Kelly at the No. 5 spot.

In doubles play, Bernstein and Jordan Reese teamed for an 8-5 win at No. 1, Murray and Chris Johnson won at No. 2, and Biel and Clinton Cole won at the No. 3 spot.

The match was only the second meeting ever between the two schools.

The Hens return to action March 29 when they open a four-match swing through Florida at Eckerd College.
