Delaware Men's Tennis Advances at America East Championships

BURLINGTON, VT -- The University of Delaware men's tennis team advanced to Saturday's semifinals with a 6-1 quarterfinal win over host Vermont at the America East Championships Friday morning.

The No. 4 seed Blue Hens (12-9) will face No. 1 seed Hofstra, a first round 7-0 winner over New Hampshire, Saturday at 3 p.m. The semfinals winners advance to Sunday's finals with the champion earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Delaware captured five of the six singles matches as Ira Bernstein won at No. 1, Jordan Biel at No. 3, Chris Johnson at No. 3, Jordan Reese at No. 4, and Sean Kelly at No. 5. Vermont's lone singles was a 6-1, 6-2 victory by Hayden Aaronson over Delaware's Clinton Cole at the No. 4 spot.

Bernstein improved his season record to a team-leading 15-7 and won his 51st career singles victory to move into a tie with Ken Dill (51-14 in 1979-82) for second place on the all-time UD singles win list.

The Blue Hens won the doubles point by taking two matches as Bernstein and Reese won at No. 1 and Biel and Johnson won at No. 2.

Bernstein recorded his 42nd career doubles win to move into second place on that all-time UD list behind only Jeff Olmstead, who went 45-11 in 1972-75.
