Delaware Football To Appear on Television Seven Times in 2001
DATE: August 14, 2001 NEWARK, DE -- The 2001 University of Delaware football team will have seven games televised live during the coming season, including a school record four home games at Delaware Stadium. The Blue Hens will be televised twice on Comcast SportsNet throughout the Delaware Valley and five times on CN8, which can been see throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. Delaware will appear in its first televised game Sept. 8 when the Hens travel to Statesboro, GA to take on two-time defending NCAA I-AA champion Georgia Southern at 12 noon. The game will be produced by Comcast Sports South and will be aired on Comcast SportsNet in the Delaware Valley. The Blue Hens will follow with five games on CN8 - the Sept. 22 home game vs. Massachusetts at 7 p.m.; an Oct. 13 battle at home vs. Atlantic 10 newcomer Hofstra at 12 noon; an Oct. 22 home game vs. William & Mary at 1 p.m., a Nov. 3 game at James Madison at 12 noon, and a Nov. 10 home game vs. Richmond at 1 p.m. The Hens will close out the season Nov. 17 vs. rival Villanova for a 1 p.m. game on Comcast SportsNet. The Hofstra and James Madison games will be produced by the Atlantic 10 Television Network and could be seen on other cable outlets throughout the East Coast. Bob Picozzi and former University of Delaware All-American quarterback Scott Brunner will call the action in those games. The announcing crews for the other games will be announced later. Delaware appeared on television a record seven times during the 1997 regular season in addition to two playoff games when the Blue Hens advanced to the NCAA I-AA semifinals. The Blue Hens are coming off a 2000 season that saw them post a 12-2 record, share the Atlantic 10 Conference title with Richmond with a 7-1 record, and advance to the NCAA I-AA semifinals before falling to eventual national champion Georgia Southern. Head coach Tubby Raymond enters his 36th season at the helm with 296 career victories, just four shy of becoming just the eighth coach in college football history to amass 300 victories.
