NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware men's lacrosse standouts Matt Alrich (far right) and Ryan Metzbower (near right) will play in this Saturday's 63rd annual United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Coaches Association North-South Senior All-Star Classic.

The event, which is sponsored by STX and Geico, will be held at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY June 12 at 3 p.m. The Division III North-South game will be held at 12 noon at the same site.

Alrich, an attackman from Timonium, MD (Calvert Hall) and Metzbower, a midfielder from Severna Park, MD (St. Mary's) will represent the South team, which includes players from Johns Hopkins, Virginia, UMBC, Villanova, Penn, Georgetown, North Carolina, Towson, Denver, Maryland, and Loyola.

Alrich and Metzbower capped their senior seasons by leading the Blue Hens to a 10-6 record, a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals, and a season-high No. 11 national ranking under head coach Bob Shillinglaw.

Alrich was also recognized last Thursday, June 3, when he was selected in the fourth round of the Major League Lacrosse College Player Draft by the Baltimore Bayhawks. He became the first UD player selected in the College Player portion of the draft in the four-year history of the league. Seven other former Delaware players have been selected in the supplemental portion of the draft, including current New Jersey Pride attackman Jason Lavey - the only other active UD player in the league. Alrich is currently working out with Baltimore, which has already started its 2004 season.

Alrich capped an outstanding senior season in 2004 by earning first team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors after leading Delaware in scoring for the second straight year. He led all CAA players with 46 points on 34 goals and 12 assists and scored at least two goals in 12 games with a career-high five goals vs. Denver. A second team All-CAA selection in 2003 when he had 35 goals and six assists, he finished his career with 103 points on 83 goals and 20 assists, becoming just the 27th player in school history to reach the 100-point plateau. He posted three or more goals in a game 14 times during his career.

Metzbower was a four-year standout for the Blue Hens and earned second team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors this past spring when he ranked fourth on the squad in scoring with 21 points on 15 goals and six assists. He led the Hens with two-game winning goals.

He played in 60 career games and scored 75 goals and dished out 26 assists, joining Delaware's 100-point career list. He also earned second team All-CAA honors in 2003 when he had 15 goals and four assists and was the America East Rookie of the Year in 2000 when he scored 30 goals and dished out 12 assists.
