NEWARK, Del. -- Samantha K. Huge, who spent the last three years on the staff at Georgetown University, has been named Senior Associate Director of Athletics at the University of Delaware.
Huge (pronounced “hugh-gee”), who will begin her tenure in the new position this week, is the first hire for new UD Director of Athletics Bernard Muir.
“We are excited to have Samantha join our staff here at the University of Delaware,” said Muir, who served as director of athletics at Georgetown University the previous four years and joined Delaware's staff earlier this month. “I was fortunate to have worked with Samantha over the last three years and have been so impressed with her knowledge, work ethic, and passion for working in athletics and serving student-athletes. She is a great addition and brings so many positives to our program.”
In her new position, Huge (at right) will serve as liaison to various campus entities including the Office of the General Counsel, Admissions, and Human Resources and will also oversee NCAA certification efforts, NCAA compliance, and Title IX issues. She will also oversee various sport programs and assist in the overall administration of the department.
Huge earned her bachelor of arts degree from Gordon College in 1992, where she played varsity basketball for four years. She went on to earn her law degree from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University in North Carolina in 1997.
She was named Associate Athletics Director for Compliance at Georgetown University in August of 2006 and directed all activities of the Athletics Compliance Office, which is responsible for coordinating Georgetown's efforts to comply with all NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations.
In addition to her compliance duties, Huge was the primary sport administrator for women's soccer, track & field, cross country, and baseball and served as the secondary sport administrator for women's basketball. Huge also oversaw the Office of Equipment & Transportation and served as the athletic department's liaison to the academic side of campus and sat on several institutional committees.
Huge is a member of the NCAA Committee on Academic Performance and was a member of the NCAA Amateurism Clearinghouse Advisory Group.
She came to Georgetown from Wake Forest University, where she served as Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance for four years. While at Wake Forest, Huge directed and coordinated the institution's athletics compliance efforts in addition to serving on various campus committees, including as chair of the Gender Equity Committee. Prior to her time at Wake Forest, Huge worked in the athletics compliance offices of the Southern Conference, the University of Illinois, and Michigan State University.
