AVALON, N.J. -- University of Delaware Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations Scott Selheimer will be honored with the Irving T. Marsh Service Bureau Award Thursday night at the awards dinner of the annual ECAC-SIDA Workshop.
The Marsh Award is given annually to a member of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA) who has exhibited excellence in the field of sports information.
Selheimer was the Marsh Award winner in the University Division (D-I or II), while Fran Elia of SUNY Cortland was the winner in the College Division (D-III or NAIA). Additionally, Al Shrier of Temple will be honored with the Pete Nevins Award for Distinguished Achievement, while Ted Ryan of the Burlington Free Press will be honored with the ECAC-SIDA Media Award.
Selheimer, who recently completed his 24th year with the UD athletic department and his 18th as Sports Information Director, was named Assistant Athletics Director, Media Relations during the summer of 2007. He oversees the publicity for the University’s NCAA Division I 23-sport athletics program.
Selheimer has won several awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) since arriving in Newark, including the 1990 and 1997 UD football media guides that were judged “Best in the Nation.” His 1991, 1992, and 1993 football guides were judged “Second in the Nation”, while he co-edited four football guides that were rated “Third in the Nation.”
This week, the 2008 Delaware football media guide that Selheimer co-edited was judged “Best in the Nation” for Division I-AA schools.
Selheimer recently served as a member of the Academic All-American Committee, has served as assistant chair of the CoSIDA Charity Committee, and served three years on the CoSIDA Publications Contest Committee.
He also previously served as President of the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association, and is a former president of the East Coast Conference Sports Information Directors.
