N. COACHES

1. All head coaches of AGB approved sports are directly responsible to a designated program administrator and ultimately, the Director, in all matters related to program conduct. Assistant coaches are directly responsible to the head coach in the program.

2. Daily program operations are handled by the Assistant Director, Operations and administered by the Associate Director of Athletics, Internal Affairs & SWA.

3. Financial matters are housed in the Athletics Business Office, managed by the Athletics Accountant and overseen by the Associate Director of Athletics, Business & External Affairs.

4. Coaches shall comply with all University, conference, regional and national policies, rules and regulations.

5. All coaches shall annually inform squad members of University, conference, regional and national eligibility requirements. Eligibility forms shall be signed by each student-athlete participant.

6. Coaches in all sports will represent the University on the highest professional level with dignity and integrity. Coaches shall respect the rights and dignity of each student.

7. Coaches shall provide each student-athlete participating on their squad with standards of behavior and conduct and the disciplinary action for non-compliance. Standards established by the Athletics Governing Board shall be made known to student-athletes.

8. Coaches shall advise their teams that the University prohibits any connection with gambling interests by student-athletes or athletics personnel and advise students of NCAA provisions concerning gambling.

9. All persons involved in any way with coaching a sport must be approved by the Director of Athletics.

10. Head coaches shall recommend a suitable candidate for each paid part- time assistant coach position to the Director of Athletics. A resume' for the recommended candidate should be given to the Director and will be filed in his/her office.

11. Head coaches who wish to fund a coach in addition to those funded by Athletics may do so within the following guidelines:

a. NCAA coaching limitations must be complied with.

b. All coaching staff, paid and unpaid, must be approved in writing by the Director of Athletics.

c. Coaches may fund additional coaches (if not in excess of NCAA limit) through use of their supplemental funds, if sufficient funds exist.

d. Part-time assistant coaches need to be paid on a consistent scale. Rates have been established and are available from the Associate Director of Athletics, Business & External Affairs.

e. As an alternative to the above-mentioned rates, graduate students in a declared degree program may be paid a stipend and covered for the full cost of tuition for each regular semester as a graduate assistant coach for up to three years as a maximum.

12. The NCAA identifies six categories of coaches - head coach, assistant coach, restricted coach, volunteer coach, graduate assistant coach and undergraduate assistant coach. Coaching staff members need to familiarize themselves with current NCAA rules related to each category.

13. All coaches involved in off-campus contact or evaluation of prospective student-athletes must pass the NCAA coaches certification exam prior to any such involvement.

14. All coaching staff members need to familiarize themselves with the Athletics Operations Handbook and the Compliance Handbook in addition to this manual (all on UD, Athletics website).
