1. The current NCAA Manual and Compliance Handbook should be consulted for specific eligibility regulations and procedures. Questions should be directed to the Compliance Officer.
2. Courses to be used for eligibility transfer credit must be approved by appropriate University personnel before they are taken and when they are completed.
3. Freshmen are eligible for varsity teams in all sports.
4. Students who have not completed the NCAA and University eligibility forms are not eligible and may not practice or compete. If the students practice or compete, remaining eligibility is lost.
Eligibility forms must be filed for each sport in each year in which the student participates. This includes cross country, indoor and outdoor track as separate sports.
Students are not eligible to practice without physical examinations. The coach will be held responsible and will be subject to disciplinary action for any injury or medical expenses incurred by a student participating without an examination.
5. The endorsement of any product while participating will jeopardize the eligibility of student-athletes.
6. Each term the Student Services for Athletes office makes available to head coaches the grades for each active student-athlete. Coaches should pick these up as quickly as possible following the issuance of grades. This is particularly true for coaches of Winter Session Sports in order to determine continued qualification to receive a Winter Session meal ticket.
7. Eligibility for participation in the freshman year will be determined by the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse. Applicable procedures can be found in the Compliance Handbook and questions should be directed to the Compliance Officer.
8. It is the responsibility of each head coach to provide, at the earliest possible time, necessary materials to the Compliance Officer so that eligibility for each squad member can be confirmed well in advance of the first scheduled competition. Recertification of eligibility is done periodically throughout the season.
9. Eligibility must also be certified for non-championship season participation.
10. NCAA eligibility forms, including the student-athlete statement, job monitoring form and drug testing consent form, are distributed by the Office of the Compliance Officer to each team prior to the competitive season for that sport.
11. AGB 12/94
Subsequent to the initiation of the plus/minus grading system, the maximum quality point deficit for athletics eligibility purposes changed from 11. 99 to 12. 99 points. Students on special probation (i. e. , more than 12. 99 deficit points) are eligible for practice, but not competition.
12. Complete current information on eligibility is in the Compliance Handbook on the web (linked to UD Homepage, Athletics). Questions should be directed to the Compliance Officer.
13. Weight Room, Training Room and Equipment Room access is limited to student-athletes on active rosters. Requests for exceptions need to be approved by the Associate Director of Athletics, Internal Affairs & SWA. Non-active students with remaining eligibility may request such approval through the end of the academic year in which their eligibility is exhausted.
14. Student-athletes who are academically dismissed from the University by the CURC committee wil become immediately ineligible for intercollegiate participation upon notification of this action.
NOTE: Such dismissal primarily affects student-athletes in winter term since CURC decisions for the fall are made after the conclusion of spring semester.
