1. The University complies with the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, which grants an eligible employee up to a total of 12 work weeks of leave in any 12-month period for certain circumstances. These include care for an immediate family member (spouse, child, or parent) with a serious health condition or one's own serious health condition.
2. The total family and medical leave entitlement for each employee is 12 weeks in any 12-month period. Generally, such medical leave is unpaid. Staff members must inform their supervisors IN WRITING when they anticipate any need for extended absence related to this area. The FMLA calendar begins immediately and, therefore may include paid leave (sick leave or vacation, whichever is applicable) for part or all of the 12 week period.
3. The complete policy may be found on the web in University of Delaware Policies and Procedures. Remaining questions should be directed to the Office of Human Resources. This is administered for Athletics by the Associate Director of Athletics, Business & External Affairs.
