UD Athletics is committed to maintaining an atmosphere of sportsmanship and ethical conduct. Individual incidents of inappropriate behavior are handled by event staff with direction from the Game Manager and/or Facility Manager for all home events, with assistance from Public Safety staff.
Specific protocols, especially for alcohol-related incidents include:
1. If a fan is visibly intoxicated as he/she approaches the admission gate/door, he/she is prevented from entering the event venue.2. If the individual is a minor, the ambulance is called and the individual is sent to the hospital to ensure that alcohol poisoning is not present.
3. If an intoxicated, or otherwise unruly, fan is identified after admission, he/she is asked to leave. An ambulance is called if the individual is a minor.
4. The approach used for #1, 2 and 3 is:
a. Usher approaches the individual, indicates there is a problem and asks the individual to accompany him/her to the supervisor.b. If the individual refuses to accompany the usher, the usher withdraws and contacts both the supervisor and a Public Safety Officer, who accompany the usher to the unruly or intoxicated fan. The fan is asked to leave and, if necessary, is forcibly ejected by the Public Safety Officer.
5. When an individual has been identified as intoxicated, the Public Safety Officer will not permit him/her to drive away from the premises. The individual must identify and use alternate transportation.
6. Depending on the severity of the incident, follow-up may include contact by the Director of Athletics for admonishment and/or warning that future season tickets, where applicable, will not be sold to intoxicated/abusive patrons.
