Z. FINANCIAL AID (ATHLETICALLY-RELATED)

1. The Associate Director of Athletics and the Compliance Officer, works with the Director of Athletics and the University Office of Financial Aid to ensure that allocations of financial aid comply with NCAA, federal and state regulations. Questions regarding athletically-related financial aid should be directed to the Associate Director, Internal Affairs and/or the Compliance Officer. This applies also to requests for specific individual funding amounts.

2. Institutional funding for athletically-related financial aid is currently provided for all sport programs. Head coaches are provided annual budget information and allocations to students may be awarded solely on the basis of admissibility/athletic excellence, without regard to financial need.

3. Additional scholarship funding is available to sport programs through numerous memorial awards, some with specific criteria for recipients. Fundraising and sponsorship efforts also provide scholarship funding.

4. The Compliance Officer, in consultation with the head coach will complete, annually, an "NCAA Squad List" with athletically-related financial aid information. All financial aid figures will be verified by the Office of Financial Aid.

5. Head coaches should not contact the Office of Financial Aid directly. Instead, they should go through the Office of the Associate Director of Athletics, Internal Affairs & SWA, or through the Compliance Officer.

6. No commitment to new athletically-related financial aid program funding, nor fundraising efforts for that purpose, shall be made without the approval of the Director of Athletics.

7. Procedures for non-renewal of aid are in the Compliance Handbook.

8. The Compliance Handbook should be consulted for other specific procedures and additional information relating to athletically-related financial aid. (Linked to UD Homepage, Athletics)

9. Any proposed reduction or cancellation of aid is first reviewed by the Director of Athletics and the Associate Director of Athletics, Internal Affairs & SWA, in consultation with the Head Coach. If the reduction or cancellation is deemed to be warranted, the individual will be notified in writing, as stated in NCAA Bylaw 15.3.2.4, by the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. The written notification will indicate the student-athlete's right to appeal the reduction/cancellation of aid. A committee, consisting of the Director of Financial Aid, the Registrar or his/her designee and a representative from Campus Life will consider all appeals. Response to the student-athlete requesting the hearing will be within two weeks and the hearing will be scheduled as quickly as individual schedules allow, thereafter. The decision rendered by this committee will be final. The Associate Director of Athletics, Internal Affairs & SWA, will be the liaison/facilitator for this process. (Approved by AGB, 5/20/04).
