SS. POST-SEASON COMPETITION

1. TEAM SPORTS AGB 12/90

a. Post-season competition is limited to conference championship and NCAA events. If no conference championship exists, ECAC/regional competition is permissible.

b. The following team sports may participate in conference championship, bowl game and/or NCAA qualifying events when applicable, following regular season competition.

MEN: Baseball, Basketball, Football, Lacrosse, Soccer

WOMEN: Basketball, Field Hockey, Lacrosse, Rowing, Softball, Volleyball

c. When conference championships are unavailable, regional championship participation is permissible (e. g. , ECAC). Otherwise, "terminal" championship participation beyond the conference level is not permitted for team sports except as described below.

d. Participation for the above described events will be funded from an Athletics administrative account.

e. Participation in established post-season national invitational competition designed as showcase events with selection criteria ensuring quality immediately below the NCAA Championship field will be permitted when sufficient Athletics funding is available.

In all such cases there must be:

1) the assurance of a quality competitive event and

2) the anticipation of a reasonable chance for success by participating athletes.

Funding for these events will be from an Athletics administrative account, as available.

2. INDIVIDUAL SPORTS AGB 12/90

a. Post-season competition for conference championship (CAA) and NCAA events will be funded from an Athletics administrative account. If no conference championship exists, ECAC/regional competition is permissible and would be funded from the same source. NCAA qualifier events are included in this category.

b. Eastern championship participation will be permitted as follows:

1) Cross Country
a) Men's Cross Country - IC4A non-NCAA qualifier championship

b) Women's Cross Country - ECAC non-NCAA qualifier championship

2) Swimming and Diving

a) Men's Swimming and Diving - Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League Championship or ECAC Championship

b) Women's Swimming and Diving - Eastern Women's Swimming League Championship or ECAC Championship

3) Track & Field

a) Men's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field - IC4A Indoor and Outdoor Championship

b) Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field - ECAC Indoor and Outdoor Championship

4) Tennis

a) Men's Tennis - ITA Regional Championship

b) Women's Tennis - ITA Regional Championship

Participation for the above described events will be funded from the individual sport budgets and/or supplemental funds.

c. The option to attend any of the events described in 2. , b. would be exercised by the head coach by seeking the approval of the Director of Athletics for all entries. Approval would be granted based on:

1) the assurance of a quality meet

2) anticipation of a reasonable chance for success by participating athletes

3) qualification by athletes in at least two events in applicable sports (i. e. , M/W Swimming and Diving, Indoor, Outdoor Track and Field) unless the individual participates in a specialty event which would preclude this (i. e. , 1650 in swimming)

4) demonstration of sufficient available funding
