1. It is the responsibility of each coach to notify the Compliance Officer immediately when he/she is contacted by a potential transfer student. This will permit compliance with NCAA regulations which require the Compliance Office to contact, in writing, the originating institution to request permission to speak with the involved student-athlete. Coaches are not to correspond with the institution nor continue to converse with the student until the permission is granted.
2. Regulations governing eligibility of transfer student-athletes may be found in the current NCAA Manual. Questions should be directed to the Compliance Officer.
3. When student-athletes wish to transfer from the University of Delaware, a standard transfer letter will be sent by the Compliance Officer to the new institution.
4. Further details on procedure may be found in the Compliance Handbook.
5. Transfer releases are, in general, routinely granted. However, in the unusual event that a student-athlete's release is denied, that individual will be notified in writing, per NCAA Bylaw 14.5.5.2.10 (d), by the Office of the Director of Athletics (or his/her designee) of the denial and the right to appeal the decision. A committee, consisting of the Registrar or his/her designee, FAR and Senior Associate Director of Admissions or his/her designee, will consider all appeals. Response to the student-athlete requesting the hearing will be within two weeks and the hearing will be scheduled as quickly as individual schedules allow, thereafter. The decision rendered by this committee will be final. The Compliance Officer will be the liaison/facilitator for this process. (Approved by AGB, 5/20/04).
