Shannon Luther fired her third straight shutout

Newark, Del.- Freshman pitcher Shannon Luther pitched seven scoreless innings leading the number two seeded Hofstra University to a 1-0 win over third seeded Drexel University, in the second game of the America East Softball Championship at Delaware Field.

The Pride (33-23) will now play Towson, the winner of the first game at 11 a.m. Friday. The Dragons (32-25-1) face Boston U. the loser of the first game Friday at 1:30.

Shannon Luther earned her 16th win of the season in route to leading Hofstra to their 33rd victory of the season. Luther who currently has a 25 inning shutout streak going, scattered four hits, two strikeouts, and one walk.

Drexel senior pitcher Lori Swanson pitched six shutout innings before allowing Hofstra sophomore Heather Brousseau to single at the bottom of the sixth inning. Meaghan Almon walked to lead off the sixth inning for the Pride. Brousseau followed with the single, Almon advanced to second, LaMeka Anderson singled to shortstop, Brousseau advanced to second, and Almon advanced to third. Christine Moran reached on a fielding error, and Almon scored to give Hofstra a 1-0 lead.

Anderson and Brousseau both went one-for-two on the day for the Pride. Junior Alicia Good was "good" for Drexel going two-for-four while freshman Debbie Botke went one-for-three.

Senior Jenn Hulme singled up the middle in the top of the seventh but the Dragons were unable to keep the rally alive.

Lori Swanson (18-11) scattered two hits, one run, four strikeouts, and one walk in the loss.
