At Delaware: Co-captain...steady performer who is among all-time top outfielders in UD history....among top players in CAA...has started every game in her collegiate career (149)...reached 100 hits faster than any player in UD history...closing in on UD career hit mark (156 - record is 182 held by former teammate Lauren Mark)...begins the season fourth on the UD all-time hit list and also chasing career games played, games started, at-bats, runs scored and doubles records...needs just two runs scored to become school' s first player to score 100 career runs...also one of the tougest players in UD history to strikeout, whiffing just 30 times in her first 561 plate appearances (1 in 18.7 plate appearances)...career .308 hitter...2001: Hit .291 with 50 hits as a junior (one of three players to top the 50 hit mark in the 2001 season)...became only the second player at UD to record two seasons with 50 or more hits (Lauren Mark being the other)...2000: Hit .276 as a sophomore with 45 hits (second on the team)...led the team with 34 runs scored...second on the team in walks with 17...1999: America East Rookie of the Year...became the first Delaware player to earn conference Rookie of the Year honors...one of two players who started all 50 games to set a UD record...hit .357, third best on the team...her 61 hits were one shy of a UD single-season record and ranked third in America East...also drew a team-high 20 walks to bolster her team-best .425 on-base percentage...her 80 total bases were second on the team...her team-best and UD single-season record 36 runs scored tied for fourth in America East...also set a UD single-season record with 171 at-bats.

High School: Earned 13 varsity letters in softball, basketball, volleyball, cross country, and soccer at McDonough High School, a school-record for female athletes at the school...won four consecutive state softball championships during her career...second-team All-SMAC shortstop as a senior...named team captain for basketball and soccer as a senior...finished 11th in state cross country meet as a senior.

Personal: Amanda Sue "Mandy" Welch...born Nov. 16, 1979...daughter of John and Wanda Welch...two-time nominee for Honda Inspiration Award for overcoming adversity (80% hearing loss)...animal science major at Delaware...worked at the Charles County Humane Society during the summer.
