Boston University 5, Delaware 4 (8 innings) Mark Drives In Two in Nightcap
BOSTON -- Robyn King pitched a four-hit shutout in the opener and slammed the door with 1-2/3 innings of relief in the nightcap as Boston University swept an America East softball doubleheader from Delaware, 5-0 and 5-4 in eight innings, Saturday afternoon. King struck out 12 in her shutout effort in the opener and then came on with two outs in the seventh and struck out four of the eight batters she faced in the second game to move her record to 5-1 on the season. In the opener, the Terriers, 14-11 overall and 3-3 in America East, scored twice in the first on a two-run dinhlr by sophomore Karen Seidler. The Terriers added a single run in the second and two more in the fifth when Aryn Rangel hit the first home run ever at BU Softball Field with a two-run shot to left-center off losing pitcher Susan Dugan (7-3). In the nightcap, Delaware (11-12, 4-6) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Lauren Mark's two-run double in the top of the first. After the Terriers cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the bottom half of the inning, Delaware responded with a single run in the top of the second on Carolyn Wasilewski's RBI double. But the Terriers tied it, 3-3, when starting pitcher Robyn Horrick smacked a two-run single. After the teams traded single runs in the fifth inning, the Terriers won it in the eighth on Kristin Knesek's RBI double off the center field fence. Delaware missed chances all day long. The Blue Hens left 25 runners on base in the two games, including 16 in the nightcap. The Terriers are now 6-0 at home this season. The two teams will square off again tomorrow in a second doubleheader beginning at 12 noon.
