Boston University 3, Delaware 4 1 Mark Records RBI Double
BOSTON -- Robyn King fired a six-hit shutout in the nightcap to complete a doubleheader and four-game series sweep for Boston University, 5-0 and 3-1, over Delaware in America East softball action Monday afternoon. King, who fired 8-2/3 innings of shutout ball on Saturday afternoon in the first two games of the series, struck out 10 and walked three in running her record to 6-1 on the season and keeping the Terriers perfect at home this season. Boston University is now 8-0 at home. In the opener, the Terriers (16-11, 5-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning against losing pitcher Susan Dugan (7-4). Dugan retired Kerry Herr and Abbey Paul to start the inning, but then allowed a single to Aryn Rangel and walked King before Nichole Kurker reached on an error that scored Rangel with the game's first run. Winning pitcher Robyn Horrick followed with an infield single to score King. Kristin Knesek followed with a double to left that scored Kurker to make it 3-0. Horrick (6-5) held the Blue Hens in check until the sixth. Mandy Welch singled to open the inning, but was forced at second on Carolyn Wasilewski's fielder's choice. Lauren Mark followed with a double to center that scored Wasilewski. Amanda Cariello followed with an infield single, but Horrick settled down to strikeout the next two batters and end the threat. Delaware (11-14, 4-8) returns home to face LaSalle Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
