Delaware 3, Drexel 0 Drexel 3, Delaware 2 Dugan's shutout not enough as Hens eliminated from tourney race Susan Dugan PHILADELPHIA -- Senior Susan Dugan fired a four-hit shutout and won her 13th game of the season as University of Delaware split an America East softball doubleheader with Drexel University Sunday afternoon. Delaware won the opener, 3-0, while Drexel won the nightcap, 3-2. With the split, Delaware (20-23, 9-15 America East) was eliminated from contention for an America East Tournament berth. Hartford was swept by Boston University on Sunday to fall to 11-9 in conference play, while Towson swept Maine in Orono to move to 11-12-1 in league play. Hartford and Towson face each other next weekend, making it impossible for Delaware to catch both teams. The Blue Hens miss on the conference tournament for the first time since 1992. In the opener Sunday, Dugan scattered four singles and did not issue a walk, while striking out three in moving to 13-7 on the season. The Blue Hens pushed across a run in the fourth against losing pitcher Lori Swanson. Amanda Cariello walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Laura Streets' RBI single. Dugan got some insurance an inning later when Lauren Mark drove in two runs with a double that scored Mandy Welch and Carolyn Wasilewski. In the nightcap, Drexel scored a run in the second and took a 3-0 lead in the third on Rachel Levinson's two-run triple into the right field corner. Delaware pulled to within one in the fifth when Mark plated two more with a two-run single. However, Drexel's Laura Tynio retired the Blue Hens in order each of the last two innings to pick up the win.
