Hofstra 6, Delaware 3 Delaware 3, Hofstra 2 Mark's RBI single in the bottom of the 7th lifts Hens to split   Lauren Mark NEWARK, DE -- Lauren Mark's one-out single in the bottom of the seventh scored Mandy Welch with the game-winner as University of Delaware split a doubleheader with America East frontrunner Hofstra University Saturday afternoon at Delaware Field. Hofstra won the opener, 6-3, while Delaware took the second game, 3-2. Mark's single to center scored Welch after she had reached on an error to open the inning and moved to second on Carolyn Wasilewski's sacrifice bunt. The late inning heroics made a winner out of Amanda Cariello. The junior from Bear, DE scattered six hits and didn't issue a walk, while striking out four and raising her record to 4-7 on the season. Hofstra (22-18, 11-3 America East) had tied the score in the top of the seventh when Meaghan Almon scored on a wild pitch with two outs. In the opener, Hofstra used a five-run third inning to take command of the game. The big hit in the inning came on Almon's two-out bases loaded triple to give the Pride a 3-2 lead. Mari Shepard and Heather Brousseau followed with an RBI single and RBI double, respectively, to give Hofstra a three-run lead. Kelly Blois held Delaware at bay the rest of the way. Blois scattered 10 hits and walked one, while striking out two to raise her mark to 11-6 on the season. Wasilewski and Mark each finished the doubleheader 4-for-7 to lead Delaware (17-18, 7-11). Shepard and Lisa Ciavardini each had three hits on the day for Hofstra.
