Delaware 2, Lehigh 1 Lehigh 7, Delaware 0 Cariello Helps Self in the Opener Amanda Cariello BETHLEHEM, PA -- Amanda Cariello's RBI single broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth and made her a winning pitcher as University of Delaware split a doubleheader with Lehigh Wednesday afternoon. Delaware won the opener, 2-1, but lost the nightcap, 7-0. In the opener, Cariello (2-4) pitched four scoreless innings and then drove home Mandy Welch, who had doubled to open the inning. Cariello scored an insurance run later in the inning on Liz Winslow's RBI single. That would be all reliever Susan Dugan would need to record her first save of the season. Dugan allowed an unearned run and one hit, while striking out four over three innings of work. In the nightcap, however, Lehigh's bats woke up. The Mountain Hawks (8-8) pounded out 10 hits, chasing starter Lauren Mark (1-3) after two innings and then hitting Dugan for five runs on seven hits over the final four innings. Jenny Bender, the losing pitcher in the opener, gained a measure of revenge in the nightcap. As the designated player, Bender went 3 for 4 with four RBI in the nightcap. Delaware will host America East-foe Maine in a four-game series this weekend at Delaware Field.
