Delaware 4, Maine 2 Delaware 4, Maine 0 Ferguson picks up career win No. 400 Amanda Cariello B.J. Ferguson NEWARK, DE -- B.J. Ferguson notched her 400th career win Saturday as the University of Delaware swept an America East softball doubleheader from University of Maine, 4-2 and 4-0. With the sweep, Delaware moved to 10-9 overall, 3-3 in conference play. Maine fell to 5-22 and 0-2 in league action. The Black Bears have now lost 16 of their last 17 games. Ferguson, in her 21st season at Delaware, is the 36th active Division I coach to record 400 career wins. She is 400-346-3 in her tenure with the Blue Hens. In the opener, the Blue Hens rallied from a 2-1 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Amanda Cariello opened the inning with a double to the left field wall. After Laura Streets popped up to second for the first out of the inning, Liz Winslow singled to right and Melissa Basilio walked to load the bases. Freshman Laurie Erickson hit a chopper to third. The throw to the plate went off of the catcher's glove as Cariello slid into home. As the ball skipped away, Winslow raced around to score the go-ahead run. Freshman Becky Bates followed with an RBI single to center to score Basilio and provide insurance for winning pitcher Susan Dugan. Dugan allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out eight to raise her record to 6-2 on the season. In the second game, the Blue Hens got a four-hit shutout from Cariello to give Ferguson her 400th win. Cariello helped herselp in the bottom of the first with a two-out RBI single following Lauren Mark's triple to right. The Blue Hens tacked on two in the fourth and one in the fifth for insurance while Cariello was recording her first collegiate shutout. She struck out five and walked two in raising her record to 3-4 this season. She also finished the doubleheader 3 for 6 at the plate.
