St. Mary's 1 Mark Enjoys Record Setting Day with the Bat in UD Sweep Lauren Mark Set Three School Records in Game One EMMITSBURG, MD -- The University of Delaware softball team got a big day from its bats and Lauren Mark enjoyed a record-setting day Thursday as the Blue Hens swept host Mt. St. Mary's in a non-league doubleheader at Mt. St. Mary's Softball Field. Delaware (5-4) banged out 13 hits in a 8-0 win in the first game and added 12 hits in a 6-1 victory in the nightcap to highlight the sweep over the host Mountaineers (1-7). The Hens banged out a combined nine extra base hits in the two games. In the opener, Susan Dugan pitched a four-hit shutout and struck out seven batters to improve to 3-1 on the season for the Blue Hens. She was backed by a 13-hit attack. Delaware's Mark set three school records in the game, tying her own school record with two triples in a game, setting a school record for career triples with 18, and becoming Delaware's all-time leader in RBI with 86. Designated hitter Amanda Cariello and first baseman Liz Winslow each went 3 for 4 with two runs batted in. Winslow banged out two doubles while Cariello and shortstop Carolyn Wasilewski each had one. In the second game, Cariello (1-2) scattered four hits in five innings and did not allow an earned run to pick up the victory. The Hens scored one run in each of the first three innings on the way to the victory. Mark had another big day in game two as she went 4 for 4, scored three runs, hit a double, stole a base, and knocked in one run to lead a 12-hit attack. Mandy Welch, Laura Streets, and Melissa Basilio each collected two hits to lead the UD attack.
