Delaware 11, Pennsylvania 1 (6) Pennsylvania 7, Delaware 6 Seven-Run Second Inning Leads Hens to Split   Laura Streets had three hits and three RBI on the day PHILADELPHIA - The University of Delaware exploded for seven runs in the second inning in game one on its way to an 11-1 win over host Pennsylvania to earn a split in a non-league softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The Quakers won the nightcap 7-6, scoring all seven runs in the first three innings and holding off the Blue Hens for the victory. The Blue Hens moved their record to 19-20 while the Quakers moved to 14-27 on the season. The Hens had swept three of the last four twinbills with the Quakers. In the first game, Delaware used the seven-run third inning to move on to the win in six innings. The Blue Hens banged out 13 hits and took advantage of four Penn errors to make a winner of Susan Dugan, who allowed just six hits and struck out three batters to improve to 12-6 on the season. Centerfielder Mandy Welch knocked in three runs, including a two-run double in the four-run sixth inning, and Liz Winslow knocked in two runs to lead the UD assault. Nine different Blue Hen batters collected hits with third baseman Melissa Basilio going 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Penn's Nicole Borgstadt (7-14) took the loss, allowing all 11 runs, only three of them earned. In the second game, Penn built a 5-0 lead after the second inning before the Hens rallied with four of their own in the third as Carolyn Wasilewski, Amanda Cariello, and Laura Streets delivered run-scoring hits. Cariello's RBI was her team-leading 21st of the season. Penn third baseman Jen Moore hit a two-run home run in the third inning to give the Quakers a 7-4 lead before the Hens chipped away at the lead. Delaware scored once in the sixth and cut the lead to 7-6 in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Streets. Penn starter Becky Banta (7-13) then got Basilio to pop out to second base to end the game and force the split. Streets had two RBI in the second game while Welch and Cariello each had two hits. Cariello, the starting pitcher, took the loss to fall to 4-9. She allowed seven runs in three innings before giving way to Dugan.
