Delaware 7, Rutgers 1 Delaware 6, Rutgers 5 Seniors Steal the Show in Home Finale Susan Dugan Carolyn Wasilewski NEWARK, DE -- It was only fitting that the three seniors would steal the show in the final home softball game of the season for the University of Delaware. Lauren Mark had four hits, including a pair of triples, Carolyn Wasilewski scored three runs and set a new UD career mark for games played and Susan Dugan recorded a win and a save as Delaware swept a non-conference doubleheader from Rutgers, 7-1 and 6-5, at Delaware Field Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Hens (22-23) used a five-run inning in both games to cruise to victories. In the opener, Delaware scored twice in the first and five more times in the fifth to give Dugan all of the offense that she would need to pick up her 14th win of the season. Dugan even helped her own cause in the fifth with an RBI double and was 2-for-3 in the game. In pitching, Dugan struck out 10 and scattered four hits and three walks to move to 14-7 on the season. In the nightcap, Delaware used a five-run fourth to erase an early 2-0 deficit and take a 6-2 lead. The Blue Hens got a two-run single by Lauren Mark and took advantage of two Rutgers errors in the inning. Rutgers (21-24) rallied in the seventh, scoring three runs after their were two outs in the inning. Dugan came on to record the final out for winning pitcher Amanda Cariello, who raised her record to 5-11 on the season and helped her own cause with two hits in the game. Carielo struck out five and walked two in 6-2/3 innings of work. In the process, Wasilewski, a native of Pottsville, PA, set a school record by appearing in her 183rd career game. She broke the record set by Chris Brady (1997-2000). Wasilewski can tie Brady's games started record by starting all four games this weekend at Vermont. Delaware will close out the 2001 season with its four-game series at Vermont this weekend.
