Virginia Tech 11, Delaware 0 Delaware 14, Elon 2 Delaware 8, Radford 5 March 2, 2001   VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- The Delaware softball team rebounded from a loss to Virginia Tech to post two wins Friday in the first day of the Virginia Beach Tournament in Virginia. The Blue Hens fell to Virginia Tech, 11-0, in their season opener, but bounced back to defeat Elon, 14-2, and finished the day by beating Radford, 8-5. Lauren Mark was the winning pitcher against Elon, and helped her cause at the plate by going 4-for-5 with a home run, double, and four runs batted in. Amanda Cariello also went 4-for-5, with a home run, double, and six RBIs. Susan Dugan returned from an injury to pick up the win in the final game of the day, allowing only five runs, all in the sixth inning. Laura Streets went 3-for-4 with a triple, RBI, and scored two runs to lead the Hens at the plate. UD scored five runs in the second inning, and scored what would turn out to be the game-winning run in the sixth as Laurie Ericson led off with a double and scored on a single by Carolyn Wasilewski. The Blue Hens were shut out by Hokies starter Ashley Dobbe in the opener, and Virginia Tech scored six runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth to win in a five-inning game. Cariello took the loss for Delaware. The Blue Hens will play UMBC Saturday at 9 a.m., and will have at least two more games as the tournament continues.
