Vermont 6, Delaware 5 Vermont 5, Delaware 4 Rallies fall short as Hens get swept Lauren Mark BULRINGTON, VT -- A pair of University of Delaware rallies fell short as the Blue Hens dropped an America East softball doubleheader to University of Vermont, 6-5 and 5-4, at Archie Post Field. The Blue Hens (22-25, 9-17 America East) outhit the Catamounts in both games. In the opener, however, Vermont scored four runs on just one hit in the fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead. Jaime Dawson led off the inning with a single to center. From there, the Catamounts (14-27, 4-22) used two walks and a serious of bunts and fielder's choices to take a three-run lead. Delaware pulled to within one on an RBI single by Lauren Mark and a successful steal of home on a double steal by Mandy Welch. However, the Blue Hens stranded Mark at third. In the nightcap, Vermont jumped out to a 5-0 lead against starter Amanda Cariello (5-12). However, Delaware rallied with two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. With the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh, though, Mark grounded out to end the game. Mark finished the day with three hits, leaving her one hit shy of the UD career mark of 181 held by Lauren Baugher.
