Delaware 3, Drexel 0 Drexel 3, Delaware 0 April 20, 2002 Welch breaks record in doubleheader split   Mandy Welch broke the UD career hits mark with her single in the fifth inning of Game 1 PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Mandy Welch broke the University of Delaware career hits record as the Fightin' Blue Hens split a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader at Drexel Sunday afternoon. Delaware (15-17, 3-5 CAA) won the opener, 3-0, while Drexel won the nightcap by an identical 3-0 score. Welch broke former teammate Lauren Mark's record when she singled in the fifth inning of the opening game. The senior from La Plata, MD had three hits on the day to raise her career total to 185, breaking Mark's record of 182 set last year. Welch's single was part of a three-run fifth that made Amanda Cariello a winning pitcher. Cariello moved to 9-7 on the season with the four-hit shutout. She struck out three and did not walk a batter. In the nightcap, Drexel scored twice in the second on Winter Boehm's two-run single to right for a 2-0 lead. The Dragons tacked on an unearned run in the fifth. Laura Tynio, the losing pitcher in the first game, picked up the win in the second game for Drexel (6-29, 1-7). She scattered six hits and two walks in the complete game effort.
