UMBC 6, Delaware 0 *Temple 6, Delaware 3 (*halted in 6th inning due to darkness - will resume Sunday at 9 a.m.) East Carolina Tournament • February 23, 2002  Blue Hens Fall to UMBC 6-0 Pool Play; Temple Game to Resume Sunday Laura Streets had an RBI single in the suspended game vs. Temple GREENVILLE, NC -- The University of Delaware softball team lost its third game of the East Carolina Tournament Saturday with a 6-0 setback to UMBC and had its elimination round game vs. Temple halted in the top of the sixth inning due to darkness. The third and final day of the three-day tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday when Delaware resumes its game vs. Temple, which was halted in the top of the sixth inning with the Owls leading 6-3. If Delaware rallies to defeat Temple, the Blue Hens will follow with a game against Fairfield. A loss would mean a matchup vs. Colonial Athletic Association rival Towson. The Blue Hens (0-3) finished pool play with UMBC and fell behind 5-0 in the first inning before falling to the Retrievers by a 6-0 score. UMBC pitcher Angie Amedro hurled a five-hit shutout to post the win and was backed by a five-run first inning and another run in the second. The big hit in the first was a two-run double by Christina French. Amanda Cariello (0-2) took the loss for the Blue Hens and was replaced in the third inning by freshman Becky Rogers (Bishop Shanahan/West Chester, PA) who pitched two-hit, shutout ball for the final four innings while also knocking out two hits herself. Liz Winslow, Laurie Erickson, and Laura Streets also had base hits for the Blue Hens. The loss sent the Blue Hens to the elimination round against Temple. Delaware jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first inning as Mandy Welch led off the game with a double and later scored on an RBI single by Cariello and Randi Isaacs followed with a sacrifice fly. Streets hit an RBI double in the third inning for the 3-0 lead. The Owls battled back to tie the score with three runs in the third and added three more in the fourth for the 6-3 lead before the game was suspended.
