Delaware 4, Towson 2 May 5, 2002 Sophomore Liz Winslow sparked the Blue Hens with a two-run double in the top of the first. TOWSON, MD -- Liz Winslow's two-run double in the first inning set the tone as University of Delaware closed out its regular season with a 4-2 win over Towson University in CAA softball action Sunday afternoon. Delaware, which was swept by Towson in a doubleheader on Saturday, bounced back and closed out the regular season with a 5-9 mark in conference play and 18-25 overall. The Blue Hens will be seeded No. 4 in the six-team CAA Tournament next weekend on the Hofstra University campus in Hempstead, NY. They will open the tournament Friday at 9 a.m. against No. 5 James Madison, which also finished league play with a 5-9 mark. Delaware won two of three against the Dukes during the regular season. The winner will face top-seeded Hofstra at 2 p.m. Friday. Towson (31-22, 8-7) will be seeded No. 3 and face No. 6 Drexel at 11:30 a.m. Friday. The winner will take on second-seeded George Mason at 4:30 p.m. Friday. On Sunday, the Blue Hens jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Winslow's bases-loaded double accounted for the first two runs before Melissa Basilio scored on a wild pitch. Towson got one run back in the second and the team's traded single runs in the third before Delaware pitcher Amanda Cariello settled into a grove and shut the Tigers' down. The senior from Bear, DE allowed just two hits and one walk over the final four innings to raise her mark to 11-10 on the season.
