May 9, 2003 HEMPSTEAD, NY -- Towson University pushed across an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth and Jessica Wides fired her seventh shutout of the season as the Tigers eliminated Delaware, 1-0, at the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Tournament on Friday morning. Wides, the 2003 CAA Pitcher of the Year, struck out six and didn't walk a batter. She held Delaware to just three hits and outdueled Delaware freshman Lindsay Jones. Jones allowed four hits and struck out three. However, it was a dropped pop-up by Jones that led to Towson's only run. In the sixth, Jones (8-6) got the first two batters out to start the inning. However, an infield pop-up by Michelle Cappe was dropped by Jones to keep the inning alive. Chris Navarro and Sam Schaukowitch followed with back to back singled, Schaukowitch's scoring Cappe with the game's only run. The error by Jones was her first of the season. Delaware (20-21-1) threatened in the seventh when Laura Streets led off with a single to right. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Melissa Basilio. However, Wides got an infield pop-up and a ground out to end the game. Neither team recorded an extra-base hit in the contest and both teams left four runners on base. Towson (30-21-1) faces the loser of the Hofstra-George Mason game late Friday afternoon.
