Laura Streets hit her fifth home run of the season

NEWARK, DE -- Junior Laura Streets continued her red hot ways at the plate with six hits in the doubleheader and Jenn Joseph picked up a pair of wins in relief as Delaware swept a softball doubleheader from Dartmouth, 5-2 and 5-4 in nine innings, Sunday afternoon at Delaware Field.

The Blue Hens (6-6) have now won five straight since opening the season 1-6.

One day after hitting two home runs in a game against La Salle, Streets went 2-for-3 in the opener with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. In the nightcap, Streets was a perfect 4-for-4 with a three-run home run, her fifth of the young season. Her five home runs, which she has recorded in the last five games, already ties a UD single-season record that stood for 23 years. Theresa Kugelman hit five home runs in 1980 to set the UD record.

In the nightcap, Dartmouth scored twice in the top of the first before Delaware took a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the frame on Streets' three-run blast. The Big Green (0-2) tied the game in the third on Kisa Brannen's RBI single up the middle. Delaware reclaimed the lead in the fourth when Brooke May singled to center to score Streets.

However, Dartmouth pushed across an unearned run in the top of the seventh on a sac fly by Brannen to force extra innings. Delaware won it in the ninth when freshman Lauren Gardner singled to center, chasing home Kelley Pastic from second base.

Jenn Joseph earned the win in both games in relief. She pitched 3-1/3 shutout innings in the opener, allowing one hit and walking two. In the second game, the Wilmington, DE native fired 2-2/3 innings of no-hit relief, retiring eight of the nine batters she faced.

Delaware will host Saint Joseph's in a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 2:30 p.m.
