Delaware 5, George Mason 3 George Mason 1, Delaware 0 April 26, 2003   FAIRFAX, VA -- In a key Colonial Athletic Association showdown for both teams, Delaware and George Mason split a softball doubleheader on Saturday. Delaware won the opener, 5-3, while George Mason squeaked by in the nightcap, 1-0, to snap Delaware's five-game CAA winning streak. With the split, Delaware moved to 6-5 in CAA action and 16-17-1 overall. The Blue Hens are now in third place in the league standings. George Mason moved to 20-19 overall and 5-6 in the CAA. Four teams are two games apart for second through fifth places in the CAA standings. The top four teams advance to the CAA Tournament May 9-11. In the opener, Delaware used a five-run fourth to comeback from a 2-0 deficit. In wet conditions, Jenn Joseph overcame seven walks and two hit batters and held George Mason in check as the Patriots stranded 13 runners on base. Trailing 2-0 entering the fourth, the Blue Hens opened the inning with back-to-back doubles by Liz Winslow and Laurie Erickson to cut the deficit in half. After a walk and a pop up, a passed ball moved the runners to second and third. Joseph helped her own cause with a two-run double to right center to give Delaware a 3-2 lead. Delaware tacked on two more runs in the inning on RBI singles by Kelley Pastic and Jenny Gilkins. The Patriots threatened in each of the last three innings, but Joseph allowed just a single run in the sixth. George Mason left four runners in scoring position over the final three innings, including the tying run at second in the bottom of the seventh. In the nightcap, Delaware's Lindsay Jones and George Mason's Miranda Fox locked up in a pitchers duel. Jones allowed only an unearned run in the fourth and did now issue a walk, while Fox fired a two-hit shutout with just one walk. She retired the last 10 batters that she faced. In the fourth, Tasha Galecki singled and moved to second on an error. She moved over to third base on an infield ground out and then scored on Kathy Hrycyna's single to left.
