Hofstra 11, Delaware 0 Hofstra 7, Delaware 2 April 12, 2003 Hofstra offense paces Pride to sweep NEWARK, DE -- Tara Ulrich went 4-for-7 in the doubleheader with three RBI and two runs scored to pace Hofstra to a CAA softball doubleheader sweep over Delaware, 11-0 and 7-2, Saturday at Delaware Field. Ulrich plated two runs in Hofstra's first at-bat of the day with a double down the left field line to give the Pride a 4-0 lead and chase Delaware starter Lindsay Jones (4-3). Delaware reliever Becky Rogers held Hofstra (21-11, 5-0) in check for the most part until the seventh when a series of seeing-eye base hits resulted in a six-run seventh to put the game well out of reach. Alexis Alcantera (8-1) fired a three-hit shutout to pick up the win. In the nightcap, Delaware (9-14-1, 1-4) scored a pair of unearned runs on a throwing error in the bottom of the first. However, Hofstra came back with four runs in the third, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.The big blow in the four-run third came when Melissa Stewart smacked her 11th home run of the season, a two-run blast over the center field wall, to set a new Hofstra University single-season record. Hofstra has now won 15 straight conference regular season games and 18 straight over conference opponents. The two teams conclude their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 12 noon.
