Delaware 3, Rider 0 Delaware 3, Rider 0 April 16, 2003 Pitching staff combined for a pair of shutouts to run string to three straight games   Jenn Joseph NEWARK, DE - Jenn Joseph fired her second consecutive shutout in the opener and Lindsay Jones and Becky Rogers fired a combined shutout in the nightcap as Delaware blanked Rider (12-14) by identical 3-0 scores in a softball doubleheader at Delaware Field on Wednesday. Delaware has won three consecutive games by shutout for the first time since April 2000 when it shut Drexel out for the first three games of an America East series. The Blue Hens blanked Hofstra on Sunday, 1-0, before shutting out Rider twice on Wednesday. In the opener, Delaware (12-14-1) scored three runs in the first inning and the let Joseph got to work. Delaware's first run scored when Sarai Lavandero doubled and, after a Kelley Pastic walk, stole third while Rider had a rotation play on. The throw to third sailed into left field and Lavandero raced home. Pastic later scored on a wild pitch to make it a 2-0 game. Later in the inning, Melissa Basilio followed with an RBI single to make it 3-0. Joseph took over from there, firing her second consecutive five-hit shutout to raise her record to 7-5 on the season. In the nightcap, Jones, a freshman, scattered three hits and did not walk a batter over the first five innings and Rogers pitched two hitless innings to earn her third save of the season. Jones struck out four in moving her mark to 5-3 on the season. The South Milwaukee, WI native has allowed just two walks in 61 innings of work this season. Laura Streets broke a scoreless tie and a slump in the third. Streets snapped a 1-for-15 funk when she ripped a two-run double to right-center to give Delaware a 2-0 lead. The Blue Hens later tacked on an unearned run in the fifth. Delaware opens a three-game set with longtime rival Drexel on Friday.
