In the first game, George Mason (20-26, 4-4 CAA) scored both of its runs in the top of the first inning and held on for the 2-0 win. With the bases loaded, Dianna Austin singled to centerfield to score Michelle Hartman and Stacy James and collect two RBI. Delaware (18-17, 3-7) managed just two hits in the first game and left four runners on base. Senior Laura Streets (Newark, DE/Newark) and senior Laurie Erickson (Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood) had the only Blue Hen hits. Freshman Carolyn Sloat (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) went the distance for Delaware, allowing six hits and two runs and notching two strikeouts to fall to 11-10 on the season. In the second game, the Patriots jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning as James hit a single up the middle that scored Lindsay Pardun. The Patriots extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning, scoring three runs to go up 4-0. Hartman scored Kathy Hrycnya, Fox, and Ashley Purcell with a deep three-run double to center field. Delaware's lone run of the afternoon came in the bottom of the fifth as senior Liz Winslow (at right - Scarborough, ME/Scarborough), pinch hitting for junior Kelley Pastic (Centreville, VA/Chantilly), hit a single to right field to score sophomore Lauren Gardner (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) and cut the Mason lead to 4-1. Sophomore Lindsay Jones (S. Milwaukee, WI/S. Milwaukee) pitched the first four innings for the Blue Hens, allowing eight hits and striking out two batters. Freshman Kelsey Knapp (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) relieved Jones in the fifth and struck out five batters. two-hit shutout in the the first game and Michelle Hartman
notched three RBI in the second game as the Patriots swept
both games over the University of Delaware softball team,
2-0 and 4-1, in a Colonial Athletic Association softball
doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Delaware
Field.
