Delaware 3, George Mason 0 April 18, 2004 Sloat Pitches Four-Hit Shutout and Breaks Freshman Pitching Record Boxscore NEWARK, DE --- University of Delaware freshman pitcher Carolyn Sloat (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) threw a complete game four-hit shutout to win her 12th game of the season and break the freshman record for wins in a season as the Blue Hens downed the George Mason Patriots, 2-0, in Colonial Athletic Association softball action Sunday afternoon at sunny Delaware Field. Sloat, the reigning CAA Co-Rookie of the Week, improves to 12-10 on the season with the win. Carolynn Sloat Broke the UD Freshman Win Record with her 12th Victory Delaware (19-17, 4-7 CAA) was paced offensively by freshman Michelle Plant (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge), who hit a double in the fifth, and seniors Laura Streets (Newark, DE/Newark) and Liz Winslow (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough), who each notched an RBI. Delaware opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Wiinslow reached second base on an error by Michelle Hartman to score junior Kelley Pastic (Centreville, VA//Chantilly). The Hens tallied two more runs, in the fifth and sixth innings, to ice the game. Plant scored on a Streets' single up the middle in the fifth while senior Laurie Erickson (Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood) scored on a passed ball in the sixth. Randi Fox went the distance for the Patriots, allowing five hits, two walks, and striking out four batters. George Mason fell to 20-27 (4-5 CAA) with the loss.
