HEMPSTEAD, NY -- Hofstra University pitcher Kayleigh Lotti threw a pair of two-hit shutouts as the Pride swept a Colonial Athletic Association softball doubleheader from Delaware, 2-0 and 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the Hofstra Softball Stadium.

The Pride, which is tied for the league lead, improved to 28-13 overall and 10-3 in the CAA following the sweep, while the Blue Hens dropped to 14-20-2 overall and 5-8 in the conference.

The opener remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when Hofstra pushed across two runs. After Delaware starter Carolynn Sloat struck out Ashley Lane to open the frame, Courtney Oliver singled up the middle and was pinch run for by Jen Dutremble. Michele DePasquale then sacrificed Dutremble to second, and Melissa Hodge followed with an RBI single to right to put the Pride in front. After Genevieve Haney was hit by a pitch, Hodge scored the second run of the inning when Erika Bernstein reached on an error by Blue Hen third baseman Michelle Plant.

Lotti allowed just a single to Katie Lee in the fifth and a single to Kim Ovittore (at right) in the seventh as she fired a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and three walks. Sloat gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Hofstra looked to break open the nightcap early as the Pride loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the first inning off Delaware starter Samantha Shawn, but Sloat entered and got Oliver to bounce into a double play to keep the game scoreless. However Dreslinski hit a two-run homer in the third to give the Pride the lead, and a leadoff homer by Hodge in the fourth made it a 3-0 game.

Shawn reentered the game in the bottom of the fifth and allowed four runs as Hofstra put the game away. Lubach led off the inning with a single, and one out later she advanced to third on a double by Lane. Oliver then stroked an RBI single to left, and two more runs scored when Hodge reached on an error by Blue Hen second baseman Allison Borchers.

Lotti, who improved to 14-4 following the pair of wins, gave up just two hits while striking out eight batters and walking two. Sloat, who is now 8-12 after the two defeats, gave up three earned runs on four hits with a strikeout in 3.2 innings of work, while Shawn allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits with a strikeout in 2.1 innings in the circle.

Lee singled in the third inning for Delaware, while Ovittore hit her team-leading 14th double in the top of the seventh.

The Blue Hens and Pride conclude their weekend series on Sunday with a single game beginning at 12 a.m. at Hofstra Softball Stadium.
