Blue Hen Freshman Pitcher Anne Marie Pagano Named CAA Softball Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware freshman pitcher Anne Marie Pagano (at right) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Pagano, a native of Marathon, NY (Whitney Point HS), went 3-1 with a 0.62 earned run average in five appearances for the Blue Hens last week. She allowed just two hits and no walks while striking out two batters in Wednesday’s 8-0 five-inning victory over La Salle, and gave up five runs, just one earned, on six hits in 3.2 innings of work in the second game against the Explorers.

Pagano gave up one earned run on four hits in four innings in the Blue Hens’ 13-1 victory over Delaware State on Friday, and allowed four hits while posting two strikeouts to earned the victory in Delaware’s 3-0 win over Marist. She then allowed three runs, none earned, on five hits to pick up the win in the Blue Hens’ 13-3 triumph over Central Connecticut on Saturday.

Pagano is currently 6-2 this season with a 1.63 earned run average for Delaware, as she has allowed just 10 earned runs in 43.0 innings of work.

Sandi Wambold of Drexel was named the CAA Softball Player of the Week, while Jenny Clohan of James Madison earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

Delaware returns to action on Wednesday when the Blue Hens host Lehigh in a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
